Good discussion usually moves from what the text or sermon said, to what it means, to how people should respond.
Observation
Observation questions slow the room down. They ask people to notice words, movement, claims, and examples before evaluating them.
Interpretation and application
Interpretation questions help the group understand meaning. Application questions help people name obedience, repentance, encouragement, and prayer for the week ahead.
Use it well
- Start with observation so the room listens before it reacts.
- Use interpretation questions to connect the sermon, passage, and gospel logic.
- Choose fewer application questions than Ponder gives you if your group needs space to answer honestly.
A good discussion guide is not measured by how many questions you ask. It is measured by whether people hear the sermon and respond faithfully.
