Age tuning should make the sermon clearer, not thinner.
Younger children
Use shorter sentences, concrete images, and one main idea at a time. Let the devotional become a conversation instead of a lesson to finish.
Older children and teens
Keep the tone honest and direct. Ask what the sermon exposes, what obedience might cost, and where they need help from Christ this week.
Use it well
- For younger kids, keep one main truth, one simple question, and one short prayer.
- For older kids, let the questions name real pressure without sounding like a lecture.
- If the draft feels either too cute or too severe, rewrite the tone before you use it.
Age tuning serves the sermon. It should help a child receive the truth, not replace the truth with easier language.
